FAQ – AquaLOCK® Door Flood Protection

The AquaLOCK® Door is a watertight door solution that protects buildings reliably from incoming water and is designed for particularly demanding application areas.

To help you quickly understand what makes the door stand out, here is an overview of the key advantages.

  • Robust construction with high protection levels
    • Depending on the model, the door withstands water pressure of 1,600 mm, 3,000 mm, or 5,000 mm, providing reliable protection against heavy rainfall, flooding, and backwater.
  • Multi-stage sealing system for maximum water tightness
    • The door leaf and frame are engineered so that no water can penetrate even under high pressure – ideal for basement entrances, technical rooms, or underground garages.
  • Flexible installation and optional thermal insulation
    • The door can be installed in the reveal, in front of the reveal, or behind the reveal, and is optionally available as a thermally insulated version with a U-value of 1.5 W/m²K.

In short:
The AquaLOCK® Door combines high water protection, robust technology, and optional energy‑efficient thermal insulation to deliver a reliable, customisable flood protection door for residential, commercial, and industrial applications.

The AquaLOCK® Door provides very high flood protection depending on the version and is designed to withstand strong hydrostatic water pressure. The available protection levels depend on the selected model and its specific configuration.

  • Protection up to 1,600 mm
    • For variants with adjustable cylinder height or specific hardware configurations.
    • Ideal for typical flooding and heavy rainfall events.
  • Protection up to 3,000 mm
    • Enhanced protection level for buildings in highly exposed areas.
    • Optimal for severe heavy rainfall, surface water, and backwater.
  • Protection up to 5,000 mm
    • (Requires additional features or reinforced versions.)
    • Maximum stability for extreme flooding scenarios and very high water pressure.

In short:
AquaLOCK® Doors offer 1,600 mm, 3,000 mm, or 5,000 mm flood protection – depending on model, installation method, and equipment.

The AquaLOCK® Door is available in several versions, allowing it to be optimally adapted to different structural requirements and protection needs. Each variant offers specific advantages in terms of operation, security, installation method, and flood protection level.

The most important versions are:

  • Variants with different handle and cylinder configurations
    • Models with interior handle, exterior handle, knob–handle combinations, and double-sided cylinders. This allows operation and security to be individually customised.
  • Various installation types
    • Depending on the building situation, the door can be installed
      • in the reveal,
      • in front of the reveal,
      • behind the reveal,
      • or flush on the inside

enabling flexible solutions for both new construction and renovation projects.

  • Thermally insulated or non‑insulated versions
    • For energy-efficient buildings, a thermally insulated version with a U‑value of 1.5 W/m²K is available. For purely functional applications, a non‑insulated version can be selected.
  • Multiple protection levels
    • AquaLOCK® Doors offer protection heights of 1,600 mm, 3,000 mm, or 5,000 mm – ideal for light to extreme flood scenarios.

In short:
The AquaLOCK® Door can be flexibly configured in terms of equipment, installation type, thermal insulation, and protection class, making it easy to adapt to any building situation.

The AquaLOCK® Door offers different protection heights against incoming water depending on the version. The protection level depends on the selected model, the hardware configuration, and any optional reinforcements. This allows the door to be adapted to different risks and building situations.

The available protection levels are:

  • Protection up to 1,600 mm
    • Suitable for typical flooding scenarios, heavy rainfall events, surface water, and backwater. Ideal for standard applications with moderate water pressure.
  • Protection up to 3,000 mm
    • For buildings in higher-risk areas. This version withstands high hydrostatic pressure and provides extended flood protection.
  • Protection up to 5,000 mm
    • Maximum protection level for extreme flooding situations. Additional features or reinforced configurations are required for this water pressure level.

In short:
The AquaLOCK® Door protects against water pressure heights of 1,600 mm, 3,000 mm, or 5,000 mm depending on the model, and can therefore be configured for light to extreme flood scenarios.

The activation of the flood protection function on the AquaLOCK® Door is carried out either automatically or manually, depending on the version. All variants are designed so that the protection becomes effective reliably and quickly as soon as the door is closed and locked.

The main activation types are:

  • Internally activated flood protection
    • The flood protection function is activated exclusively via the internal handle and cylinder unit. After locking, the internal mechanisms press the sealing system evenly against the door leaf and frame, creating a watertight seal.
  • Flood protection activated from inside and outside
    • With this version, the flood protection can be triggered from both inside and outside. This system is ideal for areas that must remain accessible from the outside and allows flexible operation.
  • Automatic sealing when locked
    • Regardless of the handle configuration, the watertight sealing system activates automatically when the door is closed and locked. No additional steps or tools are required.

In short:
The flood protection of the AquaLOCK® Door is activated by locking — either from the inside only or from both the inside and outside, depending on the model. The integrated sealing system ensures a reliable barrier against incoming water.

Yes, the AquaLOCK® Door can be used easily in existing buildings. It is designed so that it can adapt flexibly to different structural conditions – both in renovation projects and in retrofitted flood protection applications.

The main reasons why the AquaLOCK® Door is ideal for existing buildings:

  • Flexible installation options
    • The door can be installed in the reveal, in front of the reveal, behind the reveal, or flush on the inside, depending on the building situation. This makes it suitable even for irregular openings or limited installation space.
  • Adaptable to existing door openings
    • The construction allows for custom-made dimensions, enabling the AquaLOCK® Door to be integrated into older or non-standard openings.
  • No major reconstruction work required
    • In most cases, installation is possible with minimal building work. This makes it especially attractive for modernisation or retrofitted flood protection projects.
  • Optional thermally insulated version
    • For energy-efficient renovations, a thermally insulated version with a U-value of 1.5 W/m²K is available.

In short:
The AquaLOCK® Door is an excellent choice for use in existing buildings, as it can be installed flexibly, customised in size, and integrated without extensive construction work.
